A ripe ecosystem of research is needed for Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, and Well-Newborn care. Nurse scientists are trusted leaders and experts in developing and conducting research and translating through evidence-based practice for our birthing moms, people, and their families in the inpatient setting.
The connections between schools of nursing and maternal-newborn care have never been more important. Supporting interest and engaging students in obstetrics and maternal health is key for developing research trajectories.
There is an abundance of expertise within universities and colleges of nursing, and bringing that brain trust and collective wisdom can provide additional research strength.
Maternal health in the community has come full circle...more and more communities are finding value and strength in having maternal-newborn nurses as essential team members in assuring optimal outcomes for the mom, birthing person, baby, and family. Research is essential in guiding evidence and practice in the home and community setting.
